Rudi Say What?

The world is a wonderful place. I want to see it all.

Scar Hair on Kloof Street, Cape Town raised over R9000 for CANSA. Owners Jodi and Andrew teamed up with this amazing charity and had a very successful fundraiser in the form of an auction.

Well done guys for using your initiative and getting involved!

Hudson’s on Kloof… YUM!

As everybody knows I’m not really one for fast/ junk food and have been campaigning against supporting the larger chains for years. But, after my third visit to Hudson’s on Kloof Street in one month, I really think it’s time for me to officially broaden my culinary spectrum to include, at least at this spot, burgers.

Tonight I had The Player Burger: 250 grams of great quality beef patty, topped with smoked back bacon, feta and avocado. The sesame bun was super fresh, the fries perfectly crispy and not greasy at all, and the roast garlic infused mayo was seriously good. (I almost got more fries just to finish the mayo!)

Meals like this are often a hit-and-miss when it comes to repeat visits, but at Hudson’s they seem to get it right every time. The service is friendly and on-the-ball with no attitude, the music is great with current tunes and oldies to bob along to, and there are several great local beers on tap (yay!!!).

One thing though: It is beyond me why an owner would allow a massive screen with sport intruding on the nice atmosphere in such a small restaurant. The screen is almost as big as the bar, which forces you to watch it if you are sitting on one of the banquettes. Epic fail! With such a great concept in an always perfectly lit space, things such as plasma screens may encourage some diners to opt for a take away rather than a sit down meal. No man. We all love sports, but at dinner?

I will encourage anybody to visit Hudson’s. It’s so lovely and reasonably priced. Great for a night out with friends or a casual first date. I like very much!!!

Ek gesels met Nianell & Romanz reg na hulle sold out show by die ABSA KKNK 2012.

Eerlikwaar my mond het behoorlik oopgehang.

Nice piece of ‘food for thought’…

Listening to the news today… Is it only me, or does the term “drug paraphernalia” strike you as amusing? Paraphernalia - from the 1650s, “a woman’s property besides her dowry”. Then, in 1791, it took the meaning “equipment, apparatus”, from the notion of odds and ends. Now you see, if the ratio of property that a woman had in her own right because of her own standing and skill far outweighed that of her dowry so kindly gifted to her so that she could be worthy to marry, it wouldn’t have been just “odds and ends”. So whether you like it or not, language has built the history of gender inequality into the term and into the practice of drug use. Think about it. And have yourselves a good weekend! I’m going to open a beer!
